Burger Basics
Milestones sticks to the basics with their burger and Beef on a toasted sesame seed bun is about as basic as you can get. Not to bash the burger, as the patty was well cooked, flavorful and juicy slapped onto a fresh toasted sesame bun, just as advertised. If there were one knock though, it would be that the bun was, dare I say, too fresh, and a bit doughy. This can be a fine line, because you definitely want a fresh bun, but when it feels almost buttery while you eat and the bottom half turns soggy near the end of the burger, it can be a turn off.
The Extras
The extras were great, fresh and thick portions of all toppings are essential and always noticed. I mean, I understand tomatoes are rising in price, but I think you can afford to give me at least a 1/4" slice of tomato. Luckily Milestones doesn’t skimp; thick tomato, crispy lettuce, real ched and a few thicker than average slices of bacon go a long way to keeping people happy. There was a noticeable lack of sauce though which, coupled with an overly doughy bun, can make for a bit of a “god a need a sip of beer†moment here and there.
The Experience
The service at this location was great, but we did wait a little longer than expected to get the meal (35 min). The atmosphere was a little hectic as we went at 6:30 on a Saturday and the usual Milestones dinner crowd was in full swing. This is by no means a ‘burger joint’ and on any given day you will run the risk of a 40 minute wait.
My Take
I wouldn’t say Milestones was tops on my radar, as they don’t flaunt their burger and I haven’t really heard much about it. That said, there are locations everywhere you go and I knew I would eventually find myself there with an opportunity to burg. Now, I know that the location I went to was a fair ways outside Vancouver, but knowing that there are a fair number of Milestones in the lower mainland, I felt I could at least use it as a barometer. Myself personally, there are other items on the menu that I salivate over, so I can’t say that I would start going there with the sole purpose of ordering their burger, but if you’re unsure as to what you should get off the menu it is definitely worth a go. Also, don’t forget the water crest dip with your fries!
