There isn't really any way to mince words when it comes to the basics of this burger. They are spot on. The patty is made from quality beef and seasoned very well, evident from the great texture and flavor, and cooked to perfection. The bun was a little deceiving at first, almost coming across as dense, but was possibly the freshest burger bun I have had. Made in-house at the Roadhouse Bake Shoppe, It's built to last, keeping great form throughout the meal, but also providing that soft doughy texture combined with the fresh almost sweet, buttery taste to lead off every bite.
Everything provided at McJac's Roadhouse Grille is fresh, abundant and delicious. From the lettuce, onions, pickle and tomato on the burg, to the two thick-cut slices of tasty bacon and the perfectly melted and quite flavorful mozza (Which I generally find to be a more bland cheese) to the unreal Cesar salad that they serve with the burger. Again, I reiterate, everything about the burg was spot on. Also, a side note, a good salad with a burger is a great call. It was the catalyst in helping me stand up from the table feeling like I had indulged just enough.
McJac's Roadhouse Grille says they serve "Deliciously wholesome and fresh. Comfort food served in generous portions with a whole lotta love." There is nothing about my meal that says otherwise. Some great old-school diner decor and great service.
Reading the menu, my burger choice was a no-brainer. Famous King George burger? Don't mind if I do. It had been at least 2 weeks since I last burged, so my expectations were already a little higher than usual, but I couldn't say no to a "Famous" burger. As soon as I saw it, I knew that I was in for a treat. The presentation of the burger, served open with its fresh and ample toppings on display, showed the care that the chef had put into building it. The first bite produced a noise similar to biting into a tomato, and burger juices nearly shot clear across the room. This was special. While the topping selection wasn't anything crazy, with each bite I could pick out the flavor from each topping melding together in sweet burger harmony. Nothing overpowered and nothing hid in the background, each of the toppings played their role and played it to perfection. The only problem I had was, halfway through the burger, when I realized I still had an entire Cesar salad. I wanted my last bite to be of burger, but my brain wouldn't let my grip loosen. After much internal struggle I placed the burger down, inhaled the salad, and saved my last bite of food for the burger. In hind-sight this was the greatest choice I could have made, as that may have been one of my all-time greatest bites. The bold smokey flavor of the beef and bacon, coupled with the subtle sweetness of the bun (As I am writing about the sweet intricacies of the near-perfect bun I am - no lie - salivating.) made for pure magic. Needless to say, this is a burger that I implore you to try.
To start, just a note explaining the weighted rating of the burg. We understand that it might be a little confusing,
but the thought is that certain points of a burger just have more of an effect on how good a burger really is.
For example, we feel the quality of the patty has a bigger impact on the burger than the cost or how well it holds together.
Quality of Bun:
How was the bun? Fresh? Chewy? We always hope for the freshest possible bun, something that we can grip on to and that will act as a proper container for the burger itself
Quality of Patty:
Ah, the essence of the burg. How good is the patty though? I mean, are we dealing with the ideal 80/20 chuck? Or, do we have a patty riddled with filler and other foreign and unwanted product?
Quality of Toppings:
How fresh is the produce on the burg? How fresh are the sauces? How well prepared are the other wild and wonderful things that adorn our burg?
Selection of Toppings:
Is this a joint that tells you what to get? Or is the the sky the limit? There's something to be said for a place that will let you pile some onion rings, a fried egg and a half a Bavarian on your burg.
How well are the 'essentials' prepared? Did you have the makings for a good patty, but Joe Chef burnt it beyond recognition? Was the patty great, but that heap of bacon you wanted was uncooked? Overall, how was the burger put together?
Nothing says delicious like a burger that is giving you those "come hither" looks with how delicious IT looks.
How far did you make it before the burger fell apart? I know a good burger is supposed to be juicy and leave your hands a mess, but I don't feel that I should be eating the majority of it with a fork.
Just how far down your arm did that succulent stream of burger juices make it? We all know that noone leaves a proper burger battle without getting a little messy
Can you get this burg at McDonalds? Did they take some time to actually make something different here? You can have burgers that are just plain amazing, and you can have burgers that are amazing and make you think "Where did they come up with this?"
Did your taste-buds do a jig? Does your mouth water at the mere mention of this burger joint? Flavor is where it’s at baby!
How much "bang for your buck" factor was involved? Obviously you pay for greatness, but sometimes it is unjust, and sometimes it is just a treat.
